SHIPOKE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

MEETING MINUTES

MONDAY, February 13, 2012

  1. Meeting called to order at 7 pm by Ellie Martindale.
  2. Attendee Status:
    Present: Chuck Cenkner, Glen Dunbar, Kathy Marley-Dunbar,, Ellie Martindale, Marie Iaria, Melissa Snyder, Shirley Marks, Bob Hosteter, Mary Beth Follett, Jill Lawley, Theresa Mowry, Brian Moore.
    Excused: Gene Gangwish, Bill Renz, Joanne Kaldy, Kathyn Nonas-Hunter.
  3. Previous Meeting Minutes: Approved.
  4. Treasury Activity Report: Report provided by Kathy Marley-Dunbar. Checkbook balance $2923.67. There were no outstanding checks.
  5. Committee Reports:
    • Crime Watch: Issue: Tents under the South Bridge continue as an issue. Glen Dunbar will contact PennDOT regarding removing the tents and occupants.An arrest has been made of the individual in the picture provided by Pinnacle of the suspected person who was breaking into vehicles. This individual and several others admitted to the crimes.
    • Social Committee: Jill Lawley presented a detailed outline for possible venues for the March General Meeting/Social. The final decision was to have the event at the Harrisburg Mansion. Date: Sunday, March 18th. Time: 4 pm with General Meeting beginning at 4:30 pm. Potluck dinner planned, with several board members bringing a meat dish. Jill Lawley will lead a food drive, with her garage as the neighborhood drop off site.
    • Communications: Brian Moore presented ideas and format suggestions for the updates on the SNA website. New ideas will be entertained on how to enhance the website. Possible ideas: testimonials from neighbors, a message board, a photo album, a connection to area realtors, and a password protected directory of residents.
    • Beautification: Planning will begin soon regarding the Race Street Park and Kiddie Park.
    • Fundraising: House tour Bill Renz spoke with HYP about partnering with them. May 12this their scheduled date. Shipoke neighbors will have to commit 20 homes for the tour. The current homes on the list were reviewed briefly. It is intended to be a home and garden tour. It will be supported by restaurants. There will be transportation available. The HYP will commit $3000 to the SNA organization. Highland Gardens will offer garden design consultations at a reduced price for those homes/gardens participants in the tour. Another possible landscaper: James Kear of PA Landscaping.
  6. Old Business:
    • Non-functional Streetlights: Chuck Cenknar will contact Earnie Hoke, Public Works Dept. Repairs have not been made to the electrical problems causing the streetlight outage in the riverfront park.
    • Vine Street Church: Observation of clean up and attention to repairs on the property.
    • Tuscarora Street Home: The owner was cited for a code violation for the “We BUY Houses” Sign.
  1. New Business:
    • Parking Permit Fees: The proposed new parking permit fee for residents is $50.00.
    • Easter Egg Hunt: Bob Hosteter will reach out to neighbors with young children to organize and plan the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
