SHIPOKE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

MEETING MINUTES

MONDAY, MAY 14, 2012

1. Meeting called to order at 7 pm by Ellie Martindale.

2. Attendee Status:

Present: Ellie Martindale, Shirley Marks, Marie Iaria, Kathy Marley-Dunbar, Glen Dunbar, Chuck Cenkner, Mary Beth Follett, Bill Renz, Bob Hosteter, Melissa Snyder, Joanne Kaldy, Brian Moore, Jill Lawley, Theresa Bell Mowery, Kathryn Nonas-Hunter , Gene Gangwish

Excused: Chuck Cenknar.

3. Previous Meeting Minutes: Approved with revised changes.

4. Treasury Activity Report:

Beginning Balance: $2644.10
Expenses: 226.00
Check Book Balance: 2418.10
O/S Check: 100.00
Statement Ending Balance: $2418.10

5. Committee Reports:

Crime Watch:

Car break in – 4 vehicles involved. 2 males involved. As well as a black vehicle. All were on the street. Pinnacle reported one break in in the South Garage. Previous individual charged is still in Dauphin County prison.

Homeless person living under bridge – Glen visited the camp. Not someone we need to be concerned with involved in crime.

National night out- Band charges 500.00 for a gig. Second Tuesday in August. Glen suggested 300.00 be allotted for entertainment.

Social Committee:

Next event is the July picnic. Nothing to report.

Communications:

Brian Moore will update the web site during the absence of the president. The letter for new neighbors was distributed. Mary Beth Follett will take care of newsletter in the absence of President.

Beautification:

Chuck Cenknar asked that mowing be done prior to the house tour. Gina King did an amazing amount of work in the park. It was suggested to buy a gift certificate to a restaurant. Del Sol is a suggested choice. It was approved to buy a $50 gift certificate.

The neighborhood looked great for the house tour.

600 block of Race Street – Problem with a broken brick and raised brick. Also, has overgrown hedges at the same property. Theresa will report it to codes.

Suggestion is to go the Highland Gardens to get a tree that does not raise the sidewalk.

Fundraising:

26 homes were on tour. Over 700 tickets were sold. It was a smashing success, as well as the great weather. Motion was made for President to write letter to editor on the praises of the HYP. Also, comments from visitors and experiences of the people who opened their homes for the tour. Joanne will write the letter.

Flea Market will be held on July 14th. The date need to be changed on the web site and newsletter.

6. Old Business:

Vine street church – People were working there, mesh inside broken basement windows.

Auto Accident Damage – No progress has been made as to the report from the auto accident that destroyed bushes in the Race Street Park.

7. New Business:

Off leash dogs and roaming cats on the rise. The will be in the newsletter.

Next Meeting: June 11th at 7 pm 568 Race St. Home of Kathryn Nonas-Hunter.
