SEPTEMBER 30, 2012

1. Due to rain, the meeting was held at 540 Race St., the former home of Char’s Bella Mundo. Thank you Char!

2. The meeting was called to order at 4pm. The Shipoke Neighborhood Association (SNA) board members introduced themselves to the assembled gathering.

3. The events of the last year were reviewed, emphasizing the resilience of our small community:

a) The March General Meeting at the Harris Cameron Mansion.

b) The May Open House Tour of the Harrisburg Young Professionals.

c) The Easter Egg Hunt and party in Conoy St. Park.

d) The Annual Flea Market in Riverfront Park.

e) The National Night Out, featuring the Hip Pocket Motown Project, in Race St. Park.

f) The Halloween Party and Parade is scheduled for October in Conoy St. Park.

The Annual Flea Market is the main money-earning activity for the SNA while the other events, with the exception of the Open House Tour, are examples of how our money is spent. The SNA also provides flowers and mulch for the parks in Shipoke. The SNA Board Members thank all who provide the labor on our spring and fall clean-up days.

4. A call was put out for volunteers to help organize next year’s Flea Market. Bill Renz will not be organizing this event next year, but his playbook for this event will be available to anyone who takes on this challenge.

5. We will be having a new T-shirt Design Contest in 2013. Details will be published in a newsletter and on the Shipoke Web Site.

6. The floor was opened for discussion:

a) The issue of skunks invading the neighborhood was raised. After a review of options, it was decided that a humane trap would be made available to interested parties.

b) A suggestion was proposed for those who use the playground to form a committee to keep it safe for the children.

7. The next General Meeting will be held in March; place and time to be announced by newsletter and on the Shipoke Web Site.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served.
