  • Social Committee:
Food Bank Community Challenge:  No report yet on food drive poundage and dollar donations.  We filled the barrel and had more donations than normal.
March Social:  Discussion on location and speaker.  Idea proposed:   to invite old time Shipokers to come to the meeting.  Theme:  “Old and New Shipoke”.  Date not set but usually mid-March.
  • Communications:
Letter to new residents went well.   Well received by many new residents.
  • Beautification:
Clean up went well.  It is always the same group that participates.  There is a call for new residents to participate.  Thank you note will be in the newsletter.  Encourage more people to participate.
  • Fundraising:
Flea Market – no volunteer has come forward  to take over the leadership of the event.

6. Old Business:
Property issues:  Property on corner of Showers and Tuscarora was cleaned up. (Weed issue)
Former Methodist church on Vine Street needs attention.   Coptic Church owns it.    Codes violations will continue to be filed.  Weeds are high and repairs need to be made.
State of public walk along the Riverbank -  Weeds are high and the concrete is broken up.  Financial issues of the city may be the issue that it is in disrepair.
Letter to resident about not being in a flood zone:  bank was looking at the wrong map.
Fence/metal railing in Riverfront Park was picked up when the pothole was repaired.
Banner torn at corner of River and Washington.  Chuck Cenknar will contact company to repair the banner.
Skunk issue:  humane traps will be set.  Coyote urine was suggested to deter prey.
Race Street Park is undermined from flood and a groundhog.  It is okay for residents to fill the holes.
Streetlights:  John Campbell/Lighten Up Harrisburg reports that the contact at the city seems responsive.  Ellie will do a walkthrough of the neighborhood and report back.
Light on Race Street will be repaired by the homeowner.
T-shirts: Contest will start on Jan 15.  T-shirts will be ready on March 15th.

7. New Business:
Noise ordinance:  reminder of respecting your neighbors.  It is an ordinance in the city.
City ordinance requires trash cans….not trash bags.
Chuck suggested we send Char Magaro a thank you note for allowing us to use her building for the general meeting.  Bob Hostettler will reach out to Char.  October 16th is her opening date, Shipoke Neighborhood Assn. sent congratulatory bouquet on the opening of her restaurant.  $75.00 was approved.

Next Meeting:    November 12 at home of Shirley Marks at 116 Nagle Street.
