SHIPOKE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
MEETING MINUTES
Monday, March 11, 2013

1. Meeting called to order at 7 pm by Ellie Martindale.

2. Attendee Status:
Present:  Chuck Cenkner, Glen Dunbar, Kathy Marley-Dunbar, Ellie Martindale, Marie Iaria, Judy Polliard, Bob Hosteter, Mary Beth Follett,  Theresa Bell Mowery, Joanne Kaldy, Bill Renz. Jill Lawley
Excused:   Shirley Marks, Brian Moore, Kathryn Nonas-Hunter,  Gene Gangwish

3. Previous Meeting Minutes: Approved.

4. Treasury Activity Report:
BEGINNING BALANCE:        $6819.25
INCOME:                                0.00
ACTIVITY:                              626.20
ENDING BALANCE:              $6193.05

5. Committee Reports:

  • Crime Watch:  No new crime reported. Ellie will remind neighbors at general meeting to be aware of potential for more crime in the spring.
  • Social Committee:
    General Meeting and March Social:  Flyers will be distributed later in the week for the general meeting/social.  A variety of people have been invited who are past residents.  Dr. Michael Barton will be the guest speaker.Easter egg hunt:  Jen Poppy will organize the Easter egg hunt.  SNA will provide $100 for the event.  4 pm time frame on April 7th.May social activity:  Band for Sunday May 19th from 5 to 7 pm.  Realtors will be contacted to have open houses to coordinate with the event.  Suggestion was made to have a hotdog grill and sodas to sell and make money for the SNA.  Final decision tabled for future meeting.
  • Communications:    Flyer is ready to distribute for social.  Contractor information will be gathered at the social.
  • Beautification:   Playground tree limb cleared. Trash cans have re-appeared in the park.Code Issues:  Home abandoned on Front St.  has garbage strewn about in the back yard.  A codes complaint will be filled out on this property.  Old kiddie center has been gutted.  Welcome center/ arts council building has been cut from utilities.    It appears that the copper plumbing has been stripped out of the arts council building. Person who used to own building communicated that Pinnacle Health has an interest in the property of the daycare center.Codes complaint filed for daycare center and 444 Second St.  Code complaint on 329 S. Front St.  will be filed. Former Methodist Church has done some repairs.Torn banners: Replacement completed.  Banners should be fine for 3 to 5 years.
  • Fundraising:  Sandy Minner and Amanda Beaudoin have volunteered to help with the flea market.  A separate meeting date will be determined later. A meeting notice will be sent out.

 

5. Old Business:

  • Property Issues:  city beautiful 2.0 meeting attended by Ellie.
  • Greenbelt meeting attended by Ellie. Trail in need of signage to avoid getting lost.  Safety issues to be addressed at busy street crossings.  Extension to Ft. Hunter discussed.
  • Spring cleanup:  Ellie will contact Gene and set a date for the cleanup.  Clean up trash as you are walking.
  • Street lights:  Nothing has been done since last month.  Several accidents have occurred along Front St. and the poles are down and lying along the street.  Lighten up Hbg is still working with the city to address the issue of lighting.  City is supposed to be hiring a person specific to repair of lighting.

 

6. New Business:

  • Complaint received about Pinnacle Health blocking roadway during construction.  The board decided not to pursue the complaint.
  • Historic research of area by Glen Dunbar.  Stories about haunted houses and disembodied souls from John Harris Mansion and the Paxton Creek.  Glen will be writing it and offering it to sell for SNA proceeds.
