Board Meeting Minutes
March 2014

  • Meeting Date/Time:  March 11, 2014 at 7 pm: called to order by Ellie Martindale.
  • Members Present:  Ellie Martindale, Dave Witwer, Shirley Marks, Marie Iaria, Kathy Marley-Dunbar, Glen Dunbar, Mary Beth Follett,  Joanne Kaldy, Amanda Beaudoin.
  • Members Excused:  Susan Fahey, Brian Moore, Betty Wolf, Gene Gangwish
  • Members Unexcused:  Jen Poppy, Bob Hostetter
  • Review Minutes:  Approved as written.
  • Treasurer’s Report:  Approved.

  • Committee Reports:
    • Crime Watch:
      Residents should be aware that thefts have occurred from back yards.  A police report has been filed regarding theft of items from a yard on Front Street.   An alert will be sent out to the neighborhood.
    • Social:
      The John Harris Mansion has been reserved.  Several board members will provide a main course.  Neighbors can bring their own beverage.    The supply of paper products will be checked and the appropriate supplies will be purchased for the social.    Another email and handout announcing the meeting will be distributed.   “True Ghost Sightings in Shipoke” will be the entertainment.
      Ground Hog Day:  It was a great success.  Publicity was very positive for Shipoke.  Thank you to all who volunteered.
      Easter Egg Hunt:  Jen Poppy will chair the Easter Egg Hunt to be held on Sunday, April 13 with a rain date of Sunday, April 27.
    • Beautification:
      Adopt A Tree/Shrub:   This will be launched at the General Meeting.
      Playground Care:  it will be discussed next meeting.
    • Communication:
      The Shipoke Facebook page is now set up.
    • Fund Raising:
      Paypal should be set up on the web site soon.
      Flea Market:  More information will be discussed at the next meeting.
  • Old Business:
    • Property Issues:  Shirley Marks agreed to be the codes representative for the SNA.
    • Jane Barton’s Parking/River Street lot: They are in poor condition.  The macadam has worn away and there is the start of a pothole.  The fence is down.  A codes form will be filled out.  (312-320 River Street).
    • Jam Auto:  Trash has accumulated.  It will take the neighbors to clean it up.
    • Open Stage presentation:  It will be up to individuals to support Open Stage.
    • Street lights:  Shirley Marks has researched replacement of the vintage street light.  She will communicate with the homeowner.
    • Biggert Waters Act:  Congress did pass amendments to the act.  Glen Dunbar has been working with the commissioners on the flood insurance issue.  George Hartwick, Commissioner, is very involved with the issue.  A meeting will be held late March early April.  It is likely that the Senate will act on amending the act next week.
    • Snow removal:  Spring will take care of the issue.
  • New Business:
    • Homeless encampment:    Trashbags near the treatment plant are from the homeless encampment.  It was noted that the number of tents under the I-83 ramp has increased.
    • Meeting with Mayor and Commissioners:  Will be scheduled at a later dates.
    • Newsletter topics: Flyer for the March Social, request for donations for Spring Clean-up
    • Issues for General Meeting: Adopt a Tree/Shrub,   Biggert Waters Act/Flood Insurance.
