Countdown to Grounddog Day!

Grounddog Day is almost here (Saturday, January 31, at 10 am), and the forecast is sunny! Well, sunny but cold (upper 20s). We’ll hold a brief ceremony in the Conoy Street Kiddie Park with Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse, Master of Ceremonies Rev. Hal Fox, and Shipoke Sheena’s weather prediction. Then we’ll move across the street to the Showers Street carriage house for coffee, donuts, and other goodies, plus music and a children’s program (with stories and crafts). Shipoke friends and musicians/artists Jonathan Frazier and Terry Crouteau will perform. The event is free and open to the public, so invite your family and friends. Let them discover what we know—that Shipoke is a beautiful, safe, fun place to live!

A few additional notes of interest:

  • Several realtors will be holding Open Houses in the neighborhood that day. We’ll announce a list of open houses at the carriage house.
  • In conjunction with our special day, Mangia Qui and Suba will offer 20% off your food bill (no drinks included) on Saturday night if you say “Happy Grounddog (or Groundhog) Day.” Ask for the special “Grounddog Grog” cocktail ($8), concocted especially for Grounddog Day and in honor of our own Shipoke Sheena. The drink is lemon, Catdaddy Moonshine, and Barrow’s Ginger Liqueur, topped with Woodchuck Cider. If you’re planning to go for dinner, reservations are recommended.
  • T-shirts and other Grounddog Day memorabilia will be available for sale (cash or checks only) at the event. Proceeds go to support Shipoke Neighborhood projects such as beautification and special events. T-shirts are $16 each, pins are $2, and refrigerator magnets or bottle openers are $3. All have the original and exclusive Grounddog Day logo on them. There are limited quantities, so get yours early!

See you next Saturday!
