Board Meeting Minutes
August 2014

Meeting Date/Time: August 12, 2014 at 7 pm called to order by Ellie Martindale.

Members Present: Ellie Martindale, Dave Witwer, Susan Fahey, Shirley Marks, Marie Iaria, Kathy Marley-Dunbar, Mary Beth Follett, Betty Wolf.
Members Excused: Gene Gangwish, Bob Hosteter Joanne Kaldy, Glen Dunbar, Brian Moore

Review Minutes: Approved as written.

Treasurer’s Report: Approved.

Committee Reports

Crime Watch:

  • Stabbing on S Front St.: This was a domestic incident involving visitors to Shipoke.
  • Crime Prevention: Neighbors should be aware of what they keep unlocked and in open view in their garages.

Social:

  • A general meeting will be scheduled in September.

Beautification:

  • Gene Gangwish was contacted about scheduling a fall clean up.
  • Grant applications are still pending.
  • The dead tree on Race Street was reported to Parks and Recreation.
  • Suggestion was made to have two shifts for the clean-up day.

Communication: Nothing to report.

Fund Raising:

  • Discussion occurred regarding a calendar as a fundraiser: “Dogs of Shipoke” calendar. Betty Wolf will do the planning A special newsletter will go out to solicit interest in model dogs.
  • PayPal account is set up. The web site host payment will be set up to be paid thru PayPal.
  • The flea market proceeds were comparable to previous years.
  • More people are needed to help out with the flea market planning.

Old Business:

  • Shipoke Banners: This topic will be tabled to next meeting. Banners will be inspected prior to the next meeting.
  • Codes Court: Dr. Barton’s properties are owned by Premier Properties ltd. The complaints were never answered. They will be issued citations soon.
  • 2nd and Washington potholes: one was filled, but one needs to be fixed.

New Business:

  • Bill Dallum wants to put a new bench in the Race Street Park in honor of his sister recently departed. It is a city issue that permission will need to be obtained.
  • Tim Hixon sent an email regarding dogs off leash and running loose in the park. This issue will be on Facebook and the newsletter.
  • Information on flood insurance will be posted on Facebook and the website.
  • A discussion of new board members will take place at the meeting in September.
