MARCH 29, 2015 – 4:00 PM

Join with us at our Annual  Spring Social at 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 29th, in the John Harris Mansion at 219 South Front Street. Bring your friends and family, and a potluck dish, to help us celebrate life in Shipoke and the coming of Spring. Popular local R&B singer Charles Lee will perform. Come out and enjoy the historic ambiance and the company of your neighbors and friends.  All  are welcome.

The Harris Mansion is a historic treasure filled with beautiful antiques and art. If you’ve never visited, you’re in for a treat. The mansion’s story began in the early 18th  century with the arrival of John Harris, who built a house and a trading post along the Susquehanna River.  Following his father’s death, John Harris, Jr., chose the current site for his family home. The original part of the house was built with locally quarried limestone. In the early 19th century, the rear wing was added. The house was a home to the Harrises and other families over the years. The house and various family items were donated to the Historical Society of Dauphin County in 1941 by then-owner Elizabeth Wright.

For the first time ever, the social will feature a live performance by Charles Lee, a popular performer whose performances include a bit of trivia to help audiences understand the origin of urban blues and the influence of Motown on America’s musical history. Charles grew up in Detroit in the ’60s on a steady diet of Motown music. He soon was performing in various venues. Over the years, he has opened for such acts as Earth, Wind & Fire; the Temptations; the Neville Brothers, and many others.

Please note that the social is a BYOB event. Only soft drinks and coffee will be provided. If you would like wine or beer, please bring your own.

No RSVP is necessary for this event.
